Seminar Overview
The Retail Distribution Review is a radical piece of legislation, and is designed to cope with failures for advice in investment products and services sold to the retail community in the UK. The FSA consultation process (FSA CP 09/18) ends on 30 October 2009, for implementation by December 2012. However, new advisers are expected to meet the benchmark level 4 qualifications from July this year, so early planning is essential.
The RDR will affect all professional advisers across all services and products, and will particularly affect all client facing individuals in terms of the new professional structure.
This two-hour workshop will cover the following:
- The distinction between investment management and advice
- The ending of commission and the new charging structure that will be required
- Labelling on disclosure
- Independent advice versus restricted advice
- Execution only services, ‘guided’ sales, simplified advice, and basic advice
- The Professional Standards Board and the new level 4 qualifications
- The competency-based assessment for older individuals.

This seminar will be of interest to all retail customer facing firms, including stockbrokers, IFA’s, and fund managers.
